Deadline to file Candidate Application: February 17, 2023 by 5pm. March 10, 2023 by 5pm (If no one files by deadline on February 17, 2023.

General Election Information

The General Election of Council Members/Mayor whose terms are expiring is scheduled for the first Saturday in May every four years. The elections are staggered with two councilmember and three councilmember respectively every four years. All elections are held in accordance with the laws of the State of Texas Election Code and in accordance with the Official City Charter of the City of Sinton and Ordinance or Resolution adopted by the Council for the conduct of elections.


The City Secretary's Office, as the City's designated Administrator of Elections, coordinates all City Elections in accordance with the City Charter and Texas Election Code . calendar of election events for the annual general election elections will be posted on our site as it is available each year; with Candidate Packets available just prior to the beginning of the filing period. Qualifications for City Council candidates and polling locations can be viewed online as information becomes available. All special election calendars of events will be posted on our site when applicable.

Qualifications for City Council Candidates

  • Each member of the council shall have been a resident citizen of the city for a period of not less than six (6) months immediately preceding his or her election, and shall be a qualified voter of the State of Texas on the date of filing.
  • No member of the council shall be a candidate for, nor hold any other elective office, appointive city office, or be a paid employee of the city. 
  • Any citizen with all the above qualifications except as to resident, but wo shall have been a resident of any territory that is annexed under the provisions of this charter for a period of not less than six months immediately proceeding his or her election, shall be eligible to serve on the council. 
  • If any member of the council shall cease to possess any of the above qualifications or be convicted of a misdemeanor by theft or any felony, his office shall immediately become vacant.

Sinton City Council meets every 3rd Tuesday of the month at 6pm, in the City Council Chambers at Sinton City Hall.
